Volkswagen owners will not have to pay arrears on motor tax says Minister Kelly
The Environment Minister Alan Kelly has said there is no prospect of Volkswagen owners having to pay any arrears on motor tax.
Minister Kelly said emissions for motor tax are based on carbon dioxide emissions, which is not affected by the Volkswagen scandal.
Around 80,000 Irish cars are affected by the scandal, which concerns false readings in the emissions of nitrogen oxide.
In response to written Dáil questions, the minister said there were no tax implications to the scandal, meaning there are no concerns about any arrears for Volkswagen drivers.
