Mary Hanafin added to FF election ticket despite losing at selection convention
Mary Hanafin has been officially added to Fianna Fáil's election ticket in Dún Laoghaire.
The former minister has been added to the ticket despite missing out on a nomination at a convention on Monday night.
Hanafin topped the poll at Monday's convention, but was beaten by Councillor Cormac Devlin on transfers.
Both Hanafin and Devlin have both previously claimed that the party's best hope for a seat is by running a single candidate.
However, the two will now both go forward in what is effectively a three-seat constituency.
Cormac Devlin says he still believes a single-candidate strategy would offer Fianna Fáil's best hope of taking a seat.
In a statement he says the decision to add Hanafin as a running mate "dramatically reduces the chances of Fianna Fáil securing a seat in Dún Laoghaire".
He added that he will work even harder than before to try and get elected.
