The Anti-Austerity Alliance is holding its first annual conference in Dublin today

The party said that it is hoping to build a new movement to transform Irish society and represent working-class people.

The party is due to merge with People Before Profit in the coming weeks, to form a political group to contest the next General Election.

TD Paul Murphy said that one of their key policy proposals will look to get corporations and wealthy people to pay more tax.

"The likes of Apple, Google, Facebook, have got away with paying an extremely minimal rate or corporation tax when they've been making massive profits," he said.

"And the idea of a millionaires' tax on net assets, held by multimillionaires over a million euros and the idea of a third, higher rate of income tax on those who earn over €100,000."
