Up to 80,000 Irish cars may be affected by the Volkswagen global emissions-rigging scandal, based on the number of new Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen cars sold here between 2009 and 2014.

The company is expected to reveal after a board meeting later today which models are among the 11 million involved in the scandal, in which millions of its diesel vehicles worldwide were fitted with software to trick emissions tests.
