Rent relief proposed in the upcoming Budget
A package is set to be unveiled in the coming weeks aimed at helping tenants in rented properties around the country.
It's going to address areas like housing supply, rent supplement and rent certainty.
Officials in the Departments of the Environment and Finance are working on the scheme, which is due to be launched before Budget 2016 in three weeks' time.
Environment Minister Alan Kelly hopes the programme will help people facing the trend of rising rents around the country.
"Rent certainty is what we are proposing to put in place for the next number of years with some set clauses in it,” said Minister Kelly.
“Because we believe it is only necessary for a number of years whereby rents will be linked to CPI (Consumer Price Index) to ensure that there can’t be these ridiculous, immoral jumps in rent by some landlords especially in large urban areas.”
