Woman seriously ill after collision in Cork city

A woman is in a serious condition in hospital after she was hit by a car in Cork City.

The accident happened on the South Mall around 3am this morning. The woman, who is understood to be in her 30s, was taken to Cork University Hospital.

It is believed she was walking home with friends when the accident occurred.

The road is closed for a technical examination until later today.

Gardaí are examining CCTV footage of the area at the time of the accident, and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
