Man dies at half marathon in Dublin

A man has died at the SSE Airtricity Dublin half marathon.

Organisers have confirmed that the 23-year-old man passed away following today's race.

They also confirmed that the man, from Dublin, collapsed 300 or 400 metres away from the finish line at this morning's half marathon.

A number of doctors, who were participants in the race themselves, stopped to provide the man with assistance.

The man was transferred to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he was pronounced dead.

Organisers have commended the St John's Ambulance medical team and all those who looked after the young man and expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
