'If somebody had sex with you last week it doesn't mean they want to have sex with you this week'

July and August saw a spike in the number of people attending the sexual assault unit in Dublin.

68 people were assisted by the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre over the two-month period in comparison to 31 over the same period of time last year.

The Ask Consent campaign was launched today which aims to promote the message that sex without consent is rape.

Ellen O'Malley Dunlop of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre says the topic of consent must be spoken about more openly.

"This is why we want to get people talking, are you okay? Do you feel confortable?

"And if a person is asleep they cannot give consent, or if somebody had sex with you last week it doesn't mean they want to have sex with you this week, and that is okay. So you need to check out all the time both men and women."
