Search underway for man seen entering the river Lee near Anglers Rest pub

A coast guard helicopter has joined a search of the river Lee on the western outskirts of Cork city for a man who is believed to have entered the water this evening.

Gardai and members of the Cork City and Ballincollig fire brigades are also involved in the search operation along a stretch of the river near the Angler's Rest pub in Carrigrohane, near Ballincollig.

The search operation was launched around 9pm after reports that a man was seen entering the water.

Gardai are checking CCTV footage from the area in a bid to identify the man however, it is believed that he is in his 50s.

The search has finished for the night and will resume in the morning.
