Over 100 soldiers prepare to be deployed to Syrian border

Over 100 soldiers are making their final preparations ahead of being deployed to the Golan Heights.

50th Infantry Group are taking part in training for two weeks in the Glen of Imaal in Co Wicklow before their deployment at the end of the month.

They will be the fifth Irish contingent to deploy to the contested area between Syria and Israel.

Lieutenant Ross O'Shea outlines the type of work they'll be doing: "We are the quick reaction team that's out there on constant call to support any other UN personnel out in the area, it would involve supporting the troops that are out on observation posts."
