Prison officers injured in mass brawl at Mountjoy Prison
Two prison officers have been injured following an altercation with up to 15 prisoners in Mountjoy Prison in Dublin, it has emerged.
The incident happened on Sunday at around 2.30pm on the B1 landing.
One officer has been treated for a broken nose and the other suffered a dislocated finger.
The prisoners involved will now be subject to internal disciplinary procedures.
Jim Mitchell, deputy general secretary of the Irish Prison Officers Association, said today that his members are subjected to the highest levels of violence ever.
"One of our fellas had a dislocated finger, and another ended up with a broken nose, and there was obviously other, more minor, injuries,
"It's just another example of the level of violence that occurs in prisons on a regular basis."
