Victim of fatal shooting in Kildare named

The victim of yesterday's fatal shooting in Athy, Co Kildare has been named locally as Jason Doogue.

The 22-year-old man was gunned down in the Greenhills area at around 5pm.

A man aged in his 40s is being questioned in connection with the attack today.

A post mortem on the victim's remains is expected to be carried out later today.

Local Councillor Mark Wall has offered his condolences to the dead man's family.

"There's a lot of shock and disbelief, people gathering in groups and talking about what went on," he said.

"And I know people will be looking to the gardaí and hopefully people will be assisting the gardaí with their enquiries.

"It's not something that we want in the town of Athy, or anyone wants in any particular town, and obviously our thoughts are with the family at the moment."
