Coast Guard searches for Kerry angler 'seen falling into sea'

A search is underway in Co Kerry following reports that a person may have fallen into the sea.

The alarm was raised shortly before 4pm when the Irish Coast Guard received a report that an angler was seen entering the water at Kerry Head.

Fishing equipment is believed to have been found on the shoreline.

A Coast Guard unit from Glenderry along with the Fenit RNLI lifeboat and Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115, have been sent to the scene.

The Fenit RNLI lifeboat and Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115 have also arrived in the area to assist.

A land based team is also carrying out a coastline search which is being concentrated on Kerry Head near Dreenagh.

The Irish Naval vessel LE Orla, which is also in the area, is also proceeding to the scene and has been confirmed as on-scene incident commander.

The operation is being coordinated by staff at the Irish Coast Guard marine rescue sub centre on Valentia Island in Kerry.

Smaller boats involved in the search have been stood down because of sea conditions in the area.
