Dun Laoghaire residents protest bus cutbacks

A protest is being held in Dun Laoghaire today over proposals to alter the Dublin community's bus services.
Dublin Bus said it is reviewing some of its routes due to changes in infrastructure and customers' travelling habits in recent years.
However, campaigners claim it will have a devastating impact on vulnerable people living in the Dun Laoghaire area.
"Dublin Bus are going to savage bus services on a whole number of routes in the greater Dun Laoghaire area," said People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett, who is organising the demonstration.
"In places like Sally noggin, Killiney village, Blackrock – all of these areas where there's big communities, lots of elderly people, lots of disabled people – they're going to lose their bus service altogether, and it's really going to have a devastating impact."
Dublin Bus says no decision has been made yet on the routes in question, but Boyd-Barrett claims it's part of a wider plan to privatise bus routes and drive up profits.
