Exhausted kayakers rescued from sea in Clare

Two kayakers have been rescued after they got into difficulty at the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare.

The men are believed to have left Doolin at around 11am this morning, making south along the coast to the cliffs.

After making their way ashore for a time, they found that the tide had receded when they wanted to return.

The men had to carry their sea kayaks across the rocky shore to the sea but were too exhausted to row back to Doolin.

The alarm was raised at around 5.00pm and the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard launched their boat and raced to the scene.

Search teams quickly located the men and took them on board the rescue boat while the kayaks were towed behind.

The men were assessed at the Coast Guard base in Doolin but didn’t required any further medical assistance.
