Transatlantic jet makes emergency landing in Dublin after smoke detected

A transatlantic jet has made an emergency landing at Dublin Airport this afternoon.

Air Transat flight 315 was north of Donegal shortly before 4pm when the crew reported smoke and a burning smell on board.

The flight was travelling from Rome to Toronto at the time.

The Airbus A330 jet turned around and commenced its descent towards Dublin where emergency crews were standing by.

Several flights were placed in holding patterns to allow the emergency aircraft a priority landing.

Shortly before touch down, the crew confirmed that cabin crew reported that the smoke in the cabin had cleared.

The flight landed safely at 4.39pm and was quickly surrounded by emergency vehicles.

After fire crews carried out a preliminary visual inspection of the plane on the runway, the jet was able to taxi clear and to the terminal building accompanied by emergency vehicles.

A more detailed inspection of the aircraft is expected to be carried out once passengers have been deplaned.
