Marie Greene murder trial begins

The trial has begun at the Central Criminal Court of an Athlone man accused killing 37-year-old Marie Greene.
Her remains were found on the outskirts of Athlone, in February 2011.
Father-of-three Jimmy Devaney, who served in the Defence Forces, has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman discovered in a bog near her home.
Devaney, with an address at Millbrook, Monksland, Athlone, was 62 when he was arrested for the killing in 2011.
Marie Greene went missing after leaving the family home on St Mel’s Terrace at around 9pm on Sunday, February 13 of that year.
Her body was found in the bogland on February 22, 2011.
Opening statements will be heard by the jury this afternoon and the trial of the Mr Devaney is expected to last two weeks.
