Laois man jailed for raping his young daughter

A Laois father-of-seven has been jailed for six years for the sexual abuse and rape of his young daughter more than 30 years ago.

The incidents happened between July 1981 and July 1987, when his daughter was aged between nine and 15.

The man's name has not been released, to protect the identity of his victim, who is now aged 43.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault.

The man was sentenced to nine years, with the final three years suspended.

His name will be added to the sex offenders register.
