Two in five Irish parents lie to their children about how long car journeys will take.

While the new research by Enterprise Rent-A-Car's also found that almost 60% of children ask 'Are we nearly there yet?' within an hour of setting off.

4,500 parents were surveyed in Ireland, the UK, France, Germany and Spain, with 41% of respondents saying boredom is the number one cause of arguments on long car journeys.

But Irish parents topped the table when it came to the behaviour of their children - with 92% describing their kids as well behaved.

Only 12% of those with more than three children said their children were poorly behaved long trips.
