A homemade bomb has been made safe in Athy in Co Kildare overnight.

A homemade bomb has been made safe in Athy in Co Kildare overnight.

The Army Bomb Squad were called in to deal with the device which was found at a private residence on Bothar Bui at around 1.30am.

The area was sealed off and a number of houses nearby were evacuated.

The bomb was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion and the scene was made safe at around 3am.
