Petrol bombs thrown at PSNI car

Police have escaped injury after three petrol bombs were thrown at their vehicle.

The attack happened at St Patrick’s Walk in east Belfast just after 8pm last night.

Chief Inspector David Moore from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said he was relieved no one was hurt.

He said: “St Patrick’s Walk is very obviously a residential area in the heart of a community. People live there and children play there.

“Throwing a petrol bomb for any reason is mindless and those responsible simply need to understand that they are lethal.”

No damage was caused to the PSNI vehicle during the attack.

Police said a number of items were removed for forensic examination.
