A Sinn Féin branch in Cork resigns en masse

Members of the Cobh branch of Sinn Féin in Cork have announced their resignation en masse.

The group of 54 claim that it is in response to the expulsion of Cllr Kieran McCarthy and suspension Cllr Melissa Mullane from the party.

Sinn Féin have said that the action was taken as a result of an internal review, but they will not clarify the circumstances.

Tonight's decision by Cobh members follows a similar move by the group in Fermoy last night.

Sinn Féin has said that it will meet with members in the coming days to discuss the situation.
