Plane makes precautionary landing at Cork Airport

A light aircraft made a precautionary landing at Cork Airport this afternoon.

The incident occurred during a training flight with Atlantic Flight Training Academy after the pilot of the twin-propped PA34 aircraft thought that he smelled fumes in cockpit.

Air traffic controllers then triggered a full emergency at 12.25.

The aircraft landed safely at 12.31.

The emergency was stood down a short time afterwards.

Following a full examination of the aircraft, it was cleared to resume flight training and was back in the air within 30 minutes.

There was no fire on board the aircraft. It is believed that the fumes may have been caused by a heater in the cockpit.
