Work syndicate win Euromillions prize after second time ever playing

A group of 38 workers in Co Longford collected a €500,000 cheque from National Lottery HQ in Dublin today.

The delighted group of 38 employees of pet food production company C&D Foods in Edgeworthstown won €500,000 in Tuesday’s EuroMillions Plus draw.

It was just the second occasion ever that they played EuroMillions together.

Speaking today, syndicate spokesperson Helen Whelan said: “We only started playing last Friday when the jackpot rose to a guaranteed €100m.

“I went around and got €2 off everyone. So, we played again on Tuesday, and would you believe it, we won big!”

The syndicate group consists of 38 office staff and management ranging from 23 to 50 years of age.

The colleagues will split the win equally, each taking home €13,157.89.

“It’s not to be sneezed at and has come at the perfect time for many of us. A few of the group are engaged, so there’s a few weddings coming up. And one of the lads’ car just failed the NCT so he’ll be buying a new motor,” continued Helen.

“For me – I’ll have a bit of everything. A holiday and a few nice purchases!” she smiled.

The lucky syndicate bought their €16 Quick Pick ticket in Duffy’s SuperValu, Main Street, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford last Tuesday.

This Friday’s EuroMillons jackpot is an estimated €130m. The deadline to buy tickets in a shop is 7.30pm tomorrow evening (7.25pm online).
