Minister unable to say when EuroStat will decide on Irish Water

The Environment Minister Alan Kelly says he cannot give a date for when Irish Water will find out if it has passed a key EU test.

Mr Kelly believes it will be a couple of months before EuroStat issues its ruling on the Market Corporation Test.

If Irish Water fails the test, its debts will be considered part of the Government's, which could have an impact on austerity measures.

Minister Kelly has told the Dáil the Government has given all the documentation it can, and it is now just playing the waiting game.

He said: "This is a closed process and it is awaiting the final adjudication by EuroStat.

"I cannot give you a date, I would expect it in a couple of months.

"I cannot give a date, it is a closed process and it is a matter for themselves to make that announcement."
