RTE: Keeping O'Brien injunction would 'pointlessly chill media'

RTE has told the High Court it wants an injunction preventing the broadcast of Denis O’Brien’s private banking details, to be discharged.

Senior counsel David Holland for RTE told the Court "there is no basis for the continuation of an injunction" - arguing that after events in the Dáil last night - there is "nothing in the script that’s not in the public domain".

The Court heard the effect of the order as it stands would "pointlessly chill the operation of the media".

Lawyers for Denis O’Brien said they accept the order should be changed in light of comments made in the Dáil. However, they are resisting a complete discharge.
