Gardaí confirm attack on paedophile by group of about 15
Gardaí have confirmed they were called out to a public order incident in south Dublin after a convicted paedophile was set upon by a group of people.
The incident happened at 9pm on Wednesday in Irishtown, when the man was beaten by a mob after he left a local pub.
Gardaí were called to the scene and the man was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with minor injuries.
No arrests have yet been made.
Crime reporter with the Irish Mirror Gareth McNamee said one individual spotted the man and highlighted it on social media.
"He was drinking a few pints in his local pub…One man in the pub supposedly spotted him and told a particular facebook group," he said.
"The vigilantes - for want of a better word - gathered outside the bed and breakfast where he was staying."
When he stepped outside of the accommodation, he was set upon by the group of about 15 people.
The man was placed on the sex offenders’ register for life after being convicted of a child rape.
