Psychiatric unit to reopen at Galway hospital

The HSE is to reopen a psychiatric unit at University College Hospital Galway following a dispute with nurses.

Members of the Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) had engaged in a work to rule at the hospital over staffing and safety concerns.

Talks have been ongoing at the LRC between the PNA and HSE - it has been agreed that additional staff are to be provided for the unit.

The previously closed six-bed High Observation Unit will now be reopened.
