When they arrived at the house they found a 35-year-old man with serious injuries.

Dublin Fire Brigade treated him at the scene before he was transferred to Tallaght Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

He has been named locally as Alan O’Neill.

The scene of the crime is sealed off for a forensic examination, but bullet holes can be clearly seen in the frame of the front door and inside the house.

Two men aged 18 and 28 were arrested near the scene and a car was found burning.

They are being held at Tallaght Garda station, and can be questioned for 72 hours.

A post-mortem will be carried out today and it is expected Gardaí will formally launch a murder inquiry this afternoon.
