A lay church worker has appeared in court charged with indecently assaulting 10 boys over 13 years.

Patrick O'Brien with an address at Knocklyon Road, Templeogue, Dublin has been granted bail.

Patrick O'Brien, a lay worker for the Church of Ireland, appeared in court on 75 charges of indecent assault.

Det Garda Anthony Maloney of the Sexual Crime Management Unit gave evidence that he was arrested and brought to Terenure Garda Station this morning.

He replied 'no comment' to each of the charge sheets.

Mr. O'Brien is accused of carrying out the assaults at various locations including in Galway, Kildare, Westmeath and at St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin on dates between 1977 and 1990.

The 76 year old has been granted bail and will appear in court again for service of the book of evidence on July 28.
