Investigation launched into newborn's death at Cavan hospital

An investigation is underway into the death of a newborn baby at Cavan General Hospital.

The HSE has issued a statement confirming the case and extending its sympathies to the family involved.

Few details of the case have been revealed this morning. However, the HSE has confirmed the baby died at Cavan General Hospital.

The child passed away yesterday in the facility's maternity department.

Management at Cavan and Monaghan Hospital are offering deepest sympathy to the family on their tragic loss.

They say they hope the family will be given the privacy needed to deal with their grief, and every required assistance and support will be provided.

A full review of the circumstances surrounding the baby's death will be carried out.

The hospital was at the centre of controversy previously, following the deaths of three babies between 2012 and 2014.
