New Macra na Feirme president to focus on farm safety

The new president of Macra na Feirme Sean Finan believes farm safety will be a key area of focus for the organisation in the coming year.

Finan will be officially appointed as president at the body's annual general meeting in CoGalway today.

Macra represents young farmers as well as young people living in rural areas.

Finan has said he will work to emphasise the importance of farm safety among their members.

“We have seen a huge growth in the number of people that have been killed on farms,” said Finan.

“We all have a personally reasonability to ensure (safety), first of all on our own home farms and then ensure that we try and promote others to be safe as well.”
