Postmasters consider running General Election candidates
Postmasters across the country are to consider running candidates in the 2016 General Election.
The Irish Postmasters Union is meeting in Kilkenny this weekend where the idea is to be discussed.
The body said the move would serve as a message to government on the type of country citizens want in the future.
General Secretary of the union Ned O'Hara said: "1.7 million customers visit post offices every week. A lot of (them) support their local post office and their communities, and would see (running candidates) as an opportunity to give the Government a message on the country going forward."
