Crude device resembling pipe bomb found in Limerick

Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a suspicious device in Limerick.
The crude material, resembling a pipe bomb, was found at waste ground on the Island Field near St Mary's Park last night.
The device which gardaí said was crudely made was discovered by gardaí at around 8pm.
Detectives from Henry Street closed off entrance and exit points into the estate for a number of hours while an army explosive ordnance detonation (EOD) unit travelled from its base in Cork to examine the device.
No controlled explosion was carried out as the device was deemed not viable.
"There was a suspicious item found there and we got the EOD up to look at it," a Garda source said.
"The Army Bomb Disposal unit came up to have a look at it but we are happy enough there was no threat on it,
"The scene was closed for a few hours and the road was reopened around 11.30pm last night. We are investigating it. It was something similar enough to a pipe bomb."
