The Law Reform Commission is considering whether existing penalties are tough enough to deal with online material that invades a person's privacy, or is hurtful or hateful.

The commission has organised a seminar to discuss whether existing laws are dealing adequately with increasing level of cybercrime and cyberbullying.

Director of research at the Law Reform Commission Raymond Byrne said: "We're looking at online bullying and harassment (and) whether the existing laws are sufficient to deal with these online aspects of harassment."
