Extra vigilance encouraged from road users after four deaths today

Motorists across the country are being urged to slow down this evening following four fatalities in the last 24 hours.

The incidents both north and south of the Border in Counties Mayo, Meath and Tyrone are being investigated by Gardaí and the PSNI.

In the last 24 hours four people have lost their lives on the roads in road crashes north and south of the border.

In Meath a pedestrian suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a car on the N2 between Balrath and Slane in the early hours of this morning.

While in Tyronea man is expected to appear in Court on Monday in relation to a fatal collision involving a lorry and a van on the Melmount Road in Strabane which occurred last night.

Elsewhere in Cookstown a woman in her 50s has died as a result of a single vehicle crash at around 2.30am this morning.

Meanwhile in Co Mayo last night, a man in his 30s was fatally injured after the car he was driving hit a fence on the N5 at Knockanour in Castlebar.

Gardaí and the PSNI are urging drivers to slow down and to be on the look out for pedestrians and cyclists.
