Proposal to increase clamping fees criticised
Dublin Lord Mayor Christy Burke has said that he does not want to see clamping fines increased.
There were calls this week for the penalty to be increased, as the current amount of €80 has not increased since 1998.
A Dublin City Council official suggested raising the illegal parking fee to €130.
But Mayor Burke said that any increase would only work to serve the company operating the clamping service.
"It's 7-point-odd-million (euro) to run the company, and there's 4.2 or 4.3 million coming back in," he said.
"It would appear to me that the requested increase is certainly to boost the profits."
