Irish Water asks customers for colour of their door to deliver right bill

Irish Water customers are being asked to specify the colour of their front door if they want to get the right bill.

Today's Irish Examiner claims the utility company needs help matching 50,000 water meters to houses around the country.

It claims a large number of properties with similar addresses is causing confusion on their database.

The problem is worst in rural areas, where people give their townlands as their address - and may share a name with their neighbours.

"This just takes the farce and fiasco that is Irish Water to new levels," said People Before Profit TD and vocal water charges opponent, Richard Boyd Barret. "You have to wonder if they're going to start asking for our star sign next."

"To imagine that these people are going to fix our water infrastructure is just ludicrous."

He said Irish Water is a "bad joke" and the news is another sign that water charges should be abolished.
