Seanad and President to sign off emergency legislation on drugs today
A new emergency law is due to be signed into law today to reinstate Ireland's ban on drugs like crystal meth and ecstasy.
The emergency laws were passed by the Dáil late last night after the Court of Appeal yesterday struck down the ban as unconstitutional.
The bill will today go before the Seanad, before being rushed to Áras an Uachtaráin to be signed into law by President Higgins.
Supporting the bill in the Dáil last night Health Minister Leo Varadkar admitted he needs to act carefully to make sure people are not criminalised for carrying legal drugs.
