Gardaí in Co Meath have launched an investigation after an attempted armed bank raid this morning.

Two masked man entered the Bank of Ireland in Dunboyne at 9 am and threatened staff with guns. They failed to access the safe and made off in a silver car.

The two masked men broke into Bank of Ireland’s Dunboyne branch through the roof.

Despite threatening staff, their attempts failed, and the raiders escaped in a Silver Hyundai car which was later found abandoned a short time later on the Summerhill Road outside the town.

No money was taken in the raid and no staff members were injured.

Gardaí at Ashbourne are now appealing for anyone with information to call them at 01-801 0 600.
