Security is expected to be tight ahead of the funeral of Bernard McGinley in Athlone later today.

He was fatally shot outside a wedding in Co Fermanagh last week.

Bernard McGinley was shot in the chest outside St Mary's Church in Newtownbutler Co Fermanagh on Wednesday.

The 63-year-old, a member of the travelling community from Longford who had been living in Athlone, was flown by helicopter to hospital, but died a short time later.

A second man was also injured during the shooting, but did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

It is expected security will be tight in Athlone ahead of Mr. McGinley's funeral mass later.

It will get underway at Mary's Church from 12 noon.
