Crane winches man to safety after fall from ladder

A man has been rushed to hospital after falling off a ladder while painting a building in Limerick City.
A large crowd converged at the scene at The Crescent in the city centre shortly after 4pm today as the man was placed onto a spinal board and lifted by a crane into a waiting ambulance.
The man was placed in a neck brace before been lifted by the crane operated by Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service.
He was then winched onto a gurney and transferred to University Hospital Limerick by ambulance.
It is understood the man may have suffered broken bones and a head injury and is expected to undergo scans in hospital.
His condition is unknown.
Gardaí closed off the road onto O'Connell Avenue where the incident occurred which is causing traffic tailbacks, but it has since been reopened.

A spokesperson for Limerick Fire and Rescue Service said the ambulance service contacted the fire service to assist them in removing the man from the scene.
