The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the family of an Irishman killed in an explosion in Australia.

It is understood he died when a transformer exploded in the Galleria Shopping Centre in Morley, a suburb of Perth.

One other person was killed in the blast, while several others were injured.
