Ceann Comhairle to address controversy in the Dáil this afternoon

The Ceann Comhairle Seán Barrett is set to make a statement in the Dáil this afternoon, as opposition parties consider a motion of no confidence.

Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin have delayed a decision on whether Barrett should be asked to resign over controversial remarks last week.

Both parties has said the Ceann Comhairle must withdraw a claim that opposition TDs are "out to get him" and undermine his position.

He is due to speak to the Dáil on the subject at 3.15pm.
