Firefighters object to 'unworkable' changes in service

Proposed reductions in the manning levels and changed rostering arrangements of retained firefighter crews across the country are being slammed by the The Irish Fire and Emergency Service Association.

The proposals are part of the implementation of the Department of Environment Community and Local Government's 'Keep Communities Safe' policy document which was issued last December.

However, IFESA said these changes listed are unworkable and will put retained firefighters under further finanical and emotional strain.

The association also said the new rostering arrangements will mean that the weight of response to Fire Service incidents in Ireland will now be at danger levels.
