Freezing temperatures cause snow and ice warning

A status yellow snow-ice warning was in place across the country this morning until 10am - but temperatures will remain close to freezing in many parts.

Wintry showers will continue throughout the warning period until later today, especially across Ulster, Connacht and West Munster.

Met Éireann issued the snow-ice warning following accumulations of snow on hills and mountains.

Road temperatures are below zero on a number of routes this morning: as low as -2.4 degrees on the N11 Arklow Bypass and -2.3 on the N3 in Kells.

Motorists are being advised to drive with care.

Meanwhile, Eircom crews will be working over the weekend to restore service to customers.

Some fixed line and broadband users are without service following high winds and rain over the past number of days.
