250 jobs at Galway health firm

250 new jobs have been announced for Galway.

Healthcare firm Zimmer will create the positions over the next five years at its facility in Oranmore, as part of a €51 million investment.

Zimmer, which first established a manufacturing facility in Shannon in 2007, currently employs 330 people.

"[The company] will be involved in sales and marketing, manufacturing positions also," said the CEO of IDA Ireland, Martin Shanahan.

"The jobs are being announced this morning, [and] recruitment for those will commence in the coming months."

The Minister for Jobs, Richard Bruton, said the IDA were to be congratulated on securing the additional investment.

He said that, alongside other recent announcements, it indicated the "regional spread" of job creation.
