Emergency search underway in Waterford after reports of person entering water

Emergency services in Waterford City are dealing with an incident near the new Suir bridge on the city bypass.

It is understood that a person was seen entering the water from the bridge.

Gardaí and other emergency services were alerted immediately, and a massive search operation began.

The Waterford based Coastguard helicopter, Rescue 117, is now searching the vicinity from the air. It has been joined by up to four local river rescue and other volunteer groups.

Gardaí, the Waterford Fire Service, and ambulances remain at the scene.
