Man fractures skull in Belfast assault; PSNI also probe suspected arson attack at sports club

The PSNI are appealing for information following a serious assault in west Belfast.

A man in his 20s was attacked in the Beechmount Parade area just before 6am yesterday.

The victim has been unable to give a description of the person or persons involved in the assault, or to confirm if a weapon was used.

The results of medical treatment show that the man in his 20s suffered a fractured skull.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, the PSNI are investigating a suspected arson attack in west Belfast.

It happened at a sports and social club on the Glen Road yesterday evening. Police received a report that the building was on fire shortly after 9pm.

The fire was extinguished but the building was left totally gutted.

"We are working to establish exactly how the fire started, but believe it to have been started deliberately at this stage," the PSNI said in a statement.
