Rainfall warning for Munster and Leinster, wintry conditions in north

Met Eireann have issued a Status Yellow weather warning for parts of the country today.

The forecasters have said the Munster, south Leinster and Galway will get heavy rain from 3pm this afternoon.

They said it will continue overnight and is expected to bring more than 25mm of rain, meaning some areas may experience flooding.

Met Éireann is also warning of very wintry conditions in parts of the country overnight.

Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing in northern areas - with some snow showers, sleet and icy patches expected on untreated surfaces.

A yellow level wind alert for Connacht and Ulster passed this morning where parts of the west coast experienced gusts of more than 110 kilometres per hour.
